Our Story

Moment of Magic - The lease for our old shop had expired and the landlord needed it for personal use. We were discouraged, but magically a site a few streets west from where we were came-up for rent. A storefront on the ground floor of a gorgeous building at the corner of St. Clair West and Arlington Avenues seemed like the perfect spot. The shop has arched wide windows, which let in floods of light. We had had our eye on it for awhile, but it had always been empty, with no one in site to discuss rental.  The week we learned our lease would not be renewed, the site came up for rent. We took it on the spot and Foglie, the flower shop moved in a short month later.

The first part of the name – Foglie - is Italian for leaves. It’s pronounced Fo – ye. The last syllable borrows heavily from the sound of “yes”, much the same way we pronounce Modigliani. The other half of the name “ - the flower shop” - is a description of what we’re all about. It may seem a redundancy to state it in the name, but we wanted to emphasize the unequivocal character of our shop: “the” flower shop. That’s all we are a flower shop, but we are it. The article “the”working hard to carry the distict character of our work: beautiful, simple, elegant.

Foglie, the flower shop strives to capture beauty in all its expressions. Flowers, poetry, the sea, are but different words to describe the immeasurable beauty of the universe. It is our goal to humbly draw from the universe when working on our designs.
